What is an Attitude?

An attitude is a ballet dance position where one leg and both arms are raised. The leg can extend to either the front or back, but it never fully straightens. This position is practiced in ballet class, but it’s also implemented in turns or jumps in a variety of dance routines.

How do you do an Attitude?

  • Steg 1

    Begin standing with your heels together and your feet turned out comfortably. Place one foot in front of the other, about a foot apart, with heels aligned in the middle and your weight evenly distributed. Keep your arms in a relaxed position in front of you, slightly rounded with your fingers a few inches apart. Hold your back tall and straight.

  • Steg 2

    Raise your arms to the sides, parallel to the floor, making sure they’re softly rounded with your fingers relaxed. Extend one leg directly behind you with you toe tucked under.

  • Steg 3

    Lift your back leg, making sure your hips stay level. Your thigh should make a 90-degree angle with your hips. Create a slight bend in your knee and point your toe. Focus on holding your upper body upright with your shoulders pressing down and back.
